About The Ginger Hedgehog Company

We have been breeding these wonderful animals for about 2 years. It was something we had wanted to do for some time, then quite by chance a friend in Thailand put us in touch with a breeder and we managed to import our hedgehogs. They travelled well and had to do 6 months quarantine at our Ministry approved station and so the journey into keeping African Pygmy Hedgehogs began.

We are fortunate in having a cross section of colours and we called one Biscuit as he is a very unusual ginger colour.

We handle each hedgehog ever day and they are real characters. We have got to know their temperaments and likes and dislikes.Such as Fudge who never keeps still and would win any race and Archie who loves to tip his food bowl over and then carry it round on his head and now Katie has started to do this even though they have tunnels, toilet roll tubes, wheels and balls to play with. They are such rewarding pets and love being handled.

We are learning all the time and have had a lot of help and advise from a committee member of the UKAPH society. Our first litter was born in October 2009 to Ruby and she produced 3 lovely brown babies and all found excellent new homes. The two females went to a family where their daughter was allergic to animal fur and they had done their research and felt that a hedgehog would be an ideal pet for her.

We are very responsible when it comes to breeding and only breed our females twice a year so that they have made a complete recovery between litters. The hoglets we have had were all very healthy and very good temperaments because once they were old enough, and that Mum didn't mind they were handled daily. It is really exciting watching them grow and develop their colours.

Anyone looking to purchase a hedgehog is more than welcome to come and see our hogs and ask any questions about keeping these delightful animals and we can also ask you questions to make sure that a hoggie is the pet for you.

We are based in Cheshire and welcome visitors to see our beautiful hedgehogs
